Ultimate Software (Nasdaq: ULTI), a leading cloud provider of people management solutions, announced today that Columbia Forest Products, North America’s largest manufacturer of hardwood plywood and hardwood veneer, has reduced its costs by more than $100,000 annually while improving the effectiveness and efficiency of its HR operations and services.

Prior to deploying UltiPro in January 2011, Columbia Forest Products wanted to improve its people-centric processes, but faced a costly upgrade with the payroll service bureau it had been using in order to achieve this business goal. Subsequently, the company investigated other options and found that Ultimate Software’s UltiPro delivered a comprehensive HR, payroll, and talent management solution that could effectively manage Columbia Forest Product’s workforce in both the U.S. and Canada. Don Carter, vice president of human resources at Columbia Forest Products, said UltiPro provided the right technology to dramatically improve people-centric processes and services while contributing to the company’s bottom line.

In addition to the reduction in annual costs, Columbia Forest Products has condensed the staff needed to process payroll from nine to two and made substantial cuts in expenses related to the printing, storage, and mailing of thousands of pieces of paper.
