The CCWP training program will be held Tuesday, August 19 and Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the HYATT house in Atlanta, Georgia.

The first certification course of its kind available to HR, procurement and staffing professionals who manage contingent labor, the CCWP program was designed to assess and enhance participants’ knowledge of contingent workforce management practices and strategies and validate mastery of this area. Available to those in the talent acquisition field, the course is built around an intensive curriculum on key strategies for effective contingent workforce program management. Upon completion of the pioneering CCWP certification program, individuals will understand how to develop a contingent workforce program modeled after industry best practices and gain the insight necessary to help shape contingent workforce strategies into successful practices at their organizations.

Jobvite’s Job Seeker Nation: Mobility In The Workforce Study analyzes job seeker behavior in the two-tiered labor market

San Mateo, Calif., July 22, 2014 — Jobvite, the comprehensive recruitment platform for the world’s fastest growing companies, today announced the results of the Job Seeker Nation: Mobility In The Workforce Study, derived from the company’s annual Job Seeker Nation Survey. Jobvite examined the defining characteristics that set job seekers apart in the two-tiered labor market and how this impacts the methods and tools they use to seek career opportunities.

The data underscores the behavior and characteristics of job seekers in an increasingly divided labor market. This divide has produced heightened demand for highly skilled workers, leaving less skilled workers with fewer opportunities for advancement and mobility within the labor market.

Notable findings include:

A tightening labor market increases demand for skilled workers.

Technology, in combination with the retirement of baby boomers, contributes to increased demand for highly skilled workers. These job seekers have the demand and skill to change jobs more frequently, giving them increased mobility within the labor market. Unlike low mobility workers, these high mobility job seekers are predominately female, college educated and actively use social media and mobile technology in their job search. They have the skills to meet the demands of increasingly competitive and technical fields, making them more optimistic in their career prospects, resulting in the flexibility to switch jobs more frequently. Alternatively, less skilled workers experience more difficulty finding advanced positions resulting in lower mobility when job searching.

Not all job searches are created equal.

Social and mobile technologies have forever changed job seeking. The Job Seeker Nation: Mobility In The Workforce Study found that 70 percent of high and low mobility workers change jobs every 1-5 years, thanks in large part to technological advancements. Regardless of education or skill set, workers never stop searching for jobs, yet the way in which high and low mobility job seekers find jobs differs significantly.

Data shows that twice as many high mobility job seekers use recruiters or social networks during their job search. These job seekers are savvier about their social media privacy and are more likely to use LinkedIn during the job search than low mobility job seekers. Low mobility job seekers prefer to use referrals and Internet job boards in addition to Facebook to find the next career opportunity. However, both tiers of the labor market find the ability to apply for jobs on a smartphone important. This emphasizes the increasing prevalence of mobile for the always-on job seeker as job shopping becomes an extension of everyday life.

High mobility job seekers are more likely to be fully employed, optimistic and open to new opportunities.

As companies struggle to find quality talent to meet demand for technical, highly skilled positions, high mobility job seekers have more choices and opportunities for advancement. Data reveals that education, skill set and demand likely contribute to job seeker’s optimism, which contributes to their increased flexibility and mobility within the labor market. Ultimately, more optimistic workers are likely to leave a company for a better opportunity.

Mobile is important to both tiers of the labor market, but not everyone uses the same tools on mobile.

The rise of social and mobile technologies has turned job seeking from an “under the radar” activity into a part of everyday life. This shift in the job seeking experience is changing how and when job seekers interact with companies and seek new career opportunities. While both high and low mobility job seekers actively use mobile in their job search, how they use mobile difference significantly; high mobility job seekers are more inclined to use LinkedIn, whereas low mobility job seekers prefer Facebook.  For today’s job seeker, mobile is an essential tool in the job hunt, regardless of skill set, education level, or market demand.

Through a survey of more than 400 job seekers, iCIMS collected data on which pieces of company culture are important when searching for a career match. Some of the key findings from the research eBook include:

  • Job Seekers Prefer Environments That Encourage Collaboration – Almost 50% of job seekers prefer a “clan” type of culture at their company, which is defined as a collaborative and team-oriented environment. Twenty-one percent of respondents cited a competitive atmosphere as their preferred work environment, with 19% electing to work in a culture that allows for more creative freedom. Only 11% chose a hierarchy culture, which is defined as a controlled environment.

 

  • Employees Want Access to Training & Development – When ranking employment perks from most important to least important, job/skills training and development was at the top of the list. Additionally, 50% of employees report insufficient career development and training from their current employers.

 

  • Job Seekers Want Their Manager to be Their Mentor – Over 40% of those surveyed say they want to be managed by someone who is more like a coach or a mentor. Approximately 30% prefer a hands-on manager, and 10% of job seekers like a democratic manager.

 

  • An Open Office Floor Plan is Preferred – Job seekers of all ages pointed to an open office floor plan as their favorite, with nearly 40% of all respondents preferring no walls or cubicles at their workplace. Thirty-four percent of people ages 18-29 cited a team office, a semi-enclosed work space for small group collaboration, as their second choice, and only 11% of people ages 30-44 prefer a cubicle floor plan.

HRchitect Tech Vendor News: HireRight’s 2014 Health Care Report Reveals Slower Job Growth and Employers’ Common Screening Program Gaps

IRVINE, Calif., June 27, 2014 – Health care hiring is expected to increase this year, but at a slower pace than last year, according to HireRight’s Health Care Spotlight, a subset of its annual Employment Screening Benchmark Survey.

HireRight, a leading provider of global background checks, drug and health testing, and electronic Form I-9/E-Verify solutions, today announced the release of the 2014 Health Care Spotlight, which identifies screening practices, major trends in employment background checks, and common gaps in the screening programs of health care organizations.

The report indicates a slower job growth rate is anticipated in 2014 even though increased hiring will continue. While almost two-thirds of health care organizations (67%) reported they expect to hire and increase the size of their workforce this year, this is down seven percent from the 2013 report, reflecting a decreased rate of hiring.

“Patient care is the top priority for health care organizations, therefore hiring the highest quality, most reliable professionals is critical. Employment screening, professional license verifications, and federal and state sanctions checks are important steps to help improve security, provide exceptional care, ensure compliance with laws and regulations, and mitigate liability risks,” said Chuck Hammel, director, account management and health care solutions lead at HireRight. “These priorities are reflected in the top benefits reported by respondents – better quality of hire, improved regulatory compliance, more consistent safety and security, better company reputation, and greater employee retention.”

The Health Care Spotlight also reveals several common screening program gaps that many health care employers may face.

  • Meeting only minimum medical sanctions checks: A significant compliance gap may occur when medical sanction checks are not performed frequently enough. Less than one-third of respondents (30%) checked lists monthly, 25% screened lists once a year, 12% checked quarterly, 4% checked less than once a year and 30% screened at other intervals. Some states are requiring more frequent sanction screening. For example, the New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General has provided updates and guidance to organizations to run monthly sanction checks on existing staff. Ongoing monitoring helps ensure organizations are notified when an individual appears on a sanction list and that they are in compliance with potential changes in the required frequency of checks.
  • Not conducting recurring screening: Less than one-third of respondents (31%) reported re-screening employees with no status change and 39% re-screen employees only when they’ve had a status change. This indicates the majority of respondents are not re-screening employees at all. This gap poses the danger of missing significant changes to criminal status, sanctions status, or other issues that may arise during an individual’s employment.
  • Neglecting drug testing: Although screening to verify licenses is required in the health care industry, drug and alcohol testing isn’t generally required by law, although some states are introducing legislation to try to change this. In fact, only 54% of respondents conduct drug and alcohol testing. As a result, nearly half of respondents may leave themselves vulnerable to increased employee absenteeism, lost productivity, and above all, risk to patients and the potential liability related to drug-related damages.
  • Forgetting to screen the non-employee workforce: Most respondents (59%) do not screen the non-employee extended workforce, including contingent or temporary workers, volunteers, and vendor representatives. A HireRight study found that extended workforce applicants were 94% more likely to have a felony record than permanent-hire applicants and approximately 50% more likely to have a misdemeanor record or drug history . A best practice for health care providers is to ensure appropriate screening of non-employee workers as well as employees.
  • Overlooking global screening: Today’s health care employment market is afflicted by a shortage of skilled staff and an intense competition for talent. It’s common for organizations to recruit applicants who have lived, been educated, and worked globally. However, only 6% of respondents indicated their organization conducts global checks to verify candidates have the foreign education and experience they claim and that they don’t have any criminal history from other countries that would cause a security and liability risk.

In addition to these common pitfalls, the Health Care Spotlight explores many other issues, including the use of social media in recruiting and screening in the medical sector, common screening challenges, how screening is integrated into talent management systems, and the frequency and process through which screening programs are reviewed and revised.
